How I Went From yo-yo Dieting To Feeling In Control Around Food

Before there was Health, Wellness and Chocolate

Before there was the e-book "How To Eat Like Your Skinny Friends"

There was just me, overweight, exhausted and frustrated about my failure to lose weight. I would see the moms at the playground back in their cute clothing, running around with their kids and I would wonder, what in the world am I doing wrong? Why can't I lose weight? What am I missing?

I was especially frustrated because I am a Certified Health and Wellness Coach and Certified Health Education Specialist with a Masters Degree in Community Health Education. I know health- I love health- but I was a total failure in getting the extra baby weight off.  

I would start a diet with high hopes, (AND I tried them ALL- hoping for that miracle diet) I would eat what I was told, when I was told, exercise like crazy, drink water, shakes, or  take pills depending on the current diet plan I was on.

I would lose some weight but then after about a month,  something would happen, the flood gates would open and the weight would come back on, and I would just eat everything I had deprived myself of.

I didn't know how to keep the weight off and still be healthy.

I would wake up each morning and say "This is the day I finally win at this" and by bedtime, I would collapse into bed, feeling defeated and like a failure. And feel plagued by guilt.

I didn't want to lose the weight to look hot (I knew the teen model ship had sailed)- I wanted to lose weight to be healthy.

I wanted to enter my 40's in shape and be a good role model for my 8 kids and one day my grand kids. I wanted to have enough energy to keep up with them all day long without my knees hurting or feeling exhausted by bedtime. I wanted to feel vibrant and sexy for my husband.

Most of all, I really just wanted to feel comfortable in my own skin.

So I Took A Final Stand- No More Diets

I gave myself a year off (diets weren't working anyway). I put my Masters Degree to good use and researched my heart out to figure this mystery out once and for all. And this is what I learned:


  • Diets don't work- If you want to gain weight, go on a diet.
  • Extra weight is a symptom of an out of balance life
  • Food has become a coping tool through mindless eating habits and reacting to stress in life
  • How to raise my emotional awareness to identify the ways I was using food, and apply that-
  • The weight started coming off (almost 60 pounds!)- without dieting or deprivation or crazy meal plans or insane exercise

    And that's when I knew- I needed to help as many moms as I could who are fighting this fight. And give them the truth and teach them what they need to know to be successful in their weight loss efforts.

    I am able to do this because I teach what I know
