Five Tips To Eat Healthy During The Holidays

Five Tips To Eat Healthy During The Holidays

In my previous blog post, I wrote about how to reduce your stress this holiday season. One tip I mentioned was to have some nourishing meals frozen for those crazy December evenings when you are tight on time.

When you are trying to make your health a top priority, the holidays can be intimidating to navigate. Don’t worry sister- I got your back! This is what I have found to help me stay on track with my health goals during the holidays-

  1. Stock up your pantry now. Take advantage of the fall harvest food sales and load your pantry up with as many nourishing foods as you can. A well stocked pantry is such a blessing to have on hectic days. You can pull a nourishing meal together pretty fast if you have what you need on hand. Also, stocking your pantry saves you time and money from needing to run out to the store for only one or two ingredients. My advice- pick five meals that your family likes, get enough ingredients to be able to make each twice and have it stored.
  2. Chili, soups, lasagna, taco meat etc… all freeze well and can be pulled out of the freezer in a pinch, choose some meals you enjoy and make them ahead of time and freeze.
  3. Plan for some “light dinners” Popcorn, cheese, and assorted fresh fruit make a nourishing light dinner. These come in handy, especially if you are feeling tired of all the indulgent holiday food.
  4. Speaking of indulgent holiday food- plan ahead of time what you want to eat. Ask the host about the menu so you can plan what you would be eating or avoiding. Rather than make those decisions in reaction to amazing smells of beautiful food, you choose with your health goals in mind. This is such a powerful thing for you to do, and it really builds confidence in yourself that you can stick to your health goals.
  5. Lastly, offer to bring a meal or side dish. That way, if nothing else, there is food there that you have chosen with your health goals in mind.

If you view eating as all or nothing, the holidays are definitely going to be scary for you. If you want to learn more tools to help you feel in control around food, consider buying the E-Book, How To Eat Like Your Skinny Friends.

Remember- one meal isn’t going to ruin all your health efforts. Just don’t use that as an excuse to undo all the hard work of the past few months. Give yourself grace to enjoy the holidays and be balanced about it.
